July 13th, 2008 · 2 Comments
From this week’s Economist:
“…[David Cameron], Mr Osborne and Mayor Johnson, the three most prominent Tories in the land, were all members of the Bullingdon Club, an infamously elitist and rowdy Oxford dining club. (A photo of Mr Cameron and his clubmates in waistcoat and tails has mysteriously dropped out of circulation.)

It seems Boris Johnson’s dad’s hopes of becoming the next MP for Henley have been dashed, if the Daily Mail are to be believed*:

Following the Tories* by-election win in Crewe yesterday, it seems the rumours I mentioned yesterday could be true and the Henley by-election will take place late next month (26th) or early July (3rd). At least, that’s what the Times is reporting today.
Of course, the reason for holding the by-election so soon is to capitalise on [...]

May 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment
Will the Henley by-election ever be held? The Times is reporting it could all depend on the outcome of today’s vote in Crewe and Nantwich. If they win, the Tories will seek to capitalise on their momentum, if they lose, they’ll hold off until after the summer recess.
The writ won’t be moved because of, you [...]

Boris Johnson has a letter in this week’s Henley Standard bidding farewell to his constituents*:
"Were the people of London really going to go for a Conservative mayor?
"Well, they have. I am writing this from ex-Mayor Livingstone’s eyrie in City Hall, and it is time for Henley to find itself a new MP. It will [...]

Boris Johnson Resignation Watch Day 8: It’s going to be a while yet
May 13th, 2008 · 1 Comment
The Times has been out and about in Henley gauging local voters’ views on Boris Johnson’s two jobs* and reveal just how relaxed the timetable for a by-election is:
[Boris Johnson] will stand down, and there will be a by-election, but the local Conservative Party says that it will not have a new candidate in place [...]
