Lib Dem Blog of the Year nominations

Monday 1st September 2008 · 5 Comments

The Liberal Democrat blog of the year awards nomination deadline closed a mere nineteen hours ago, and already the anticipation is killing me. Will I actually bother to give a shit this year, or will it be like every year: a single post acknowledging how badly I’ve done, and then move on?

Regardless, here are the nominations I whizzed off to the judges over the weekend:

Best new Liberal Democrat blog (started since 1st August 2007)

No contest: Alix Mortimer.

Best blog from a Liberal Democrat holding public office

Mary Reid is consistently quite good.

Best posting on a Liberal Democrat blog (since 1st September 2007)

Alix Mortimer again, with this recent gem (damn her).

Best non-Liberal Democrat politics blog

Sadie Smith.

Liberal Democrat Blog of the Year

Alix Mortimer (damn her).

    Hmmm… I think I know Sadie Smith…

Friend of my boss if I’m correct. She always made my blood boil when the inevitable politics discussion came up…

Of course, it could be a different Sadie who worked for a Labour MP who looks a bit like that.

You are (obviously, as if this needs to be said) correct in nominating A. Mortimer, but to be honest you should get around the blogosphere a bit more if you think Sadie Smith is the best non-LD blog. I can think of some across the parties from the top of my head: Ministry Of Truth, Letters From A Tory, Bob Piper… etc.

Ministry of Truth: WAY too long-winded. I want to read blogs, not essays.

Letters from a Tory: I’ve sampled every now and then, and can never get in to.

Bob Piper: Tribal and boring. At least Sadie is (a bit) tribal and funny.

It seems you & I differ :) Yes, MoT is very long, but it’s worth it, & gets readers by the consistently high quality of research, thought & analysis on display. I don’t read posts that long for a laugh! I do it because I find them informative.

& I think Bob Piper is very funny, but YMMV. I myself don’t blog at all, I just sod round bitchin’ about everyone else :D
