The discovery of Nick Clegg’s name on a list of Cambridge University Conservative Association members in 1986 intrigued many, including myself. The Telegraph’s Three Line Whip has the latest from our lothario leader on the reason it might appear he was a student Tory:
"I joined a whole range of associations like another other, er, student when you first go to university, you get thrown all these membership lists… If I can remember exactly why I appeared on some obscure student membership list for nine months, twenty years after the event, you have to admit that would be a feat of extraordinary photographic memory"
Anyone who’s been through the drink-fuelled haze of fresher’s week can certainly sympathise with such a dodgy recollection.

In OZ, after the rout of the eleven year Rodentocracy, the (current) Leader of HM’s Loyal Oppostion, three of the Pretenders and the Once & Never putative PM were all paid up members of the Labour Party at uni in the 80s.
And the current PM (Krudd) of this disgraceful interregnum almost joined the Liberals (Tory) party during his uni daze but realised that there were too many sharp eolbows attached to functioning brains so opted for the ezy road to hell and power.
