The trial of Wang Yam for the murder of author Allan Chappelow has begun, and, because of an earlier order by the judge, it will be heard partially in secret. The following juicy snippets emerged from the public session yesterday, however, courtesy of his defence counsel:
"This is not a normal case, far from it. Every other case in this building, almost every trial in this country is held in open court. In this case the crucial evidence will be heard in private … it is a case where the truth about Yam must never be known to the press or the public."
This is bloody appalling. A man has been beaten to death in his home, and the authorities have colluded in a cover up of circumstances and motives that lay behind it.
