Via just about everywhere comes Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable’s contribution to the Northern Rock debate in the Commons yesterday:
"I am tempted to recall the Danish economist, Hans Christian Andersen, who told the story of the two conmen who visited a particularly credulous king to sell him an imaginary suit of gold to cover his nakedness. We have a naked King Gordon, desperately trying to cover his embarrassment over the “n” word “nationalisation”.
Yesterday’s Commons debate looks set to be overshadowed somewhat by the trifling matter of, um, well, I’ll let Political Betting’s front cover montage do the talking:
Oh dear. Considering the scale of the fall, in conjunction with the Northern Rock debacle, is the Guardian’s claim of "Black Monday" hyperbole or just plain fact?
